Translocality and a Duality Principle in Generally Covariant Quantum Field Theory
It is argued that the formal rules of correspondence between local observation procedures and observables do not exhaust the entire physical content of generally covariant quantum field theory. This result is obtained by expressing the distinguishing features of the local kinematical structure of quantum field theory in the generally covariant context in terms of a translocal structure which ca...
متن کاملCosmological Aspects of Rolling Tachyon
We examine the possibility of rolling tachyon to play the dual roll of inflaton at early epochs and dark matter at late times. We argue that enough inflation can be generated with the rolling tachyon either by invoking the large number of branes or brane world assisted inflation. However, reheating is problematic in this model.
متن کاملModular Nuclearity: A Generally Covariant Perspective
A quantum field theory in its algebraic description may admit many irregular states. So far, selection criteria to distinguish physically reasonable states have been restricted to free fields (Hadamard condition) or to flat spacetimes (e.g., Buchholz-Wichmann nuclearity). We propose instead to use a modular `p-condition, which is an extension of a strengthened modular nuclearity condition to ge...
متن کاملGauge Invariance for Generally Covariant Systems
Previous analyses on the gauge invariance of the action for a generally covariant system are generalized. It is shown that if the action principle is properly improved, there is as much gauge freedom at the endpoints for an arbitrary gauge system as there is for a system with “internal” gauge symmetries. The key point is to correctly identify the boundary conditions for the allowed histories an...
متن کاملOperator ordering for generally covariant systems
An essential aspect of a generally covariant system is the invariance of its action under reparametrizations; this means that the label that parametrizes the trajectories of the system is not the time but a physically irrelevant parameter. As a consequence, the system is constrained to remain on the hypersurface of the phase space where the Hamiltonian is null. In fact, since the “evolution” ge...
